About ScrubExif
A privacy tool with one design rule that everything else follows: your photos never leave your device.
Why we built it
Every photo you take records more than the scene — where you were, when, with what camera. Most people have no idea, and most "online EXIF removers" make the irony worse by asking you to upload the very photos you want private. We thought the tool that protects your files should never take custody of them. So ScrubExif has no upload button, because it has no server to upload to.
How it works
The site is a static web page. When you drop in a photo, a small program running in your own browser reads the file's container structure — the JPEG segment chain, the PNG chunk list, or the WebP container — and rewrites the file without the metadata blocks: EXIF (with GPS), XMP, IPTC, comments and embedded thumbnails. The image data itself is never re-encoded, so pixels, dimensions, transparency, animation and color profiles stay byte-for-byte identical. Nothing is transmitted, stored or logged — you can go offline after the page loads and it keeps working.
Want to verify rather than trust us? Check the network tab while you use the tool: no requests carry your file. Or load the page, disconnect your Wi-Fi, and strip away.
What it costs
Nothing. Free, unlimited, no account, no watermark, no file-size games. The site is funded by unobtrusive ads (and never before your files are processed — processing is local, ads can't touch them).
